Flashing a 3080 with 3090 bios for more power

Hello all ,

i have a msi rtx 3080 suprim x with 430w power limit bios the 3090 suprim x has a 450w power limit do you think i can flash with the 3090 bios,?

i have a watercooled system with the evc2sx with the offset of 150mv on the vrm but i always hit power limit and dont want to shunt the card

thanks all for reply 🙂 i hope i post in the right category

Hello,

I'm no expert on that specifically but as far as I know it's not possible to flash a different GPU bios on your card. A 3080 BIOS with higher power limits from another vendor may be possible (for example: https://forums.evga.com/EVGA-GeForce-RTX-3080-FTW3-XOC-BIOS-m3118560.aspx)

Hey there! Flashing a 3090 BIOS onto a 3080 Suprim X can be a bit risky since the 3080’s power delivery system might not be designed for the increased power limits of the 3090. Even with water cooling and VRM offsets, you could still run into stability issues or shorten the lifespan of the card. If you're constantly hitting the power limit, maybe try optimizing your settings or looking into undervolting for better efficiency.

Good luck with your setup!

As someone who loves tinkering with PC hardware in my free time, I can totally relate to your situation. Flashing a 3090 BIOS onto your 3080 Suprim X could technically increase the power limit, but it’s risky. The 3090 has different power delivery and VRAM specs, so flashing its BIOS might lead to instability or hardware issues. Since you’ve already got a water-cooled setup, tweaking your voltage/frequency curve could be a safer alternative to improve performance without hitting the power limit.

Also, quick tip: forums dedicated to GPU modding or enthusiasts might have users who’ve tried similar setups and can provide more specific advice.

Good luck with your setup—I’d love to hear how it turns out
